After a sold out limited run in July, The Anatomy Collective's debut show, MANY THINGS ARE DESTROYING ME, is back for another two nights this December. In one startling production, thirteen local artists fuse scripted theatre, painting, sculpture, installation art, keg beer and live music into MANY THINGS ARE DESTROYING ME, an absurd evening of humor and heartbreak.
Rather than sit in a dark, neatly-ordered row of chairs while you wait for people on the other side of the room to do something interesting, experience a show that comes to you -- walk into our world, and grab a drink while you're at it. You'll need it, because you'll quickly notice that past the shattered ballerina and broken-bottle bouquets the statue of the conjoined twins is watching you. Just as you begin to acclimate to the strange gallery around you, the madwoman with the accordion interrupts and theatre explodes into the room.
The spine of the evening is a collection of five short plays, by Taavo Smith, about relationships in a world where meaning and language are as fallible and capricious as our selves. Set in an open gallery space instead of a traditional theatre venue MANY THINGS ARE DESTROYING ME aspires to create an environment where the audience feels the two-way exchange between performer and audience more directly.
MANY THINGS ARE DESTROYING ME is remounted in coordination with HAVE/HOLD, a sister production by Melbourne, Australia's Concrete Cloud Collective. Through blogs, comment cards, and online footage the audience will share their perspectives across the globe.
The audience is encouraged to stay after the performance for complimentary keg beer and one–on–one conversations with the artists.
