The Anatomy Collective & Lucid Street Theatre team up as Lucid Anatomy to present Monster/Girl, a butoh-inspired performance exploring the zombie as individual through strange sounds, haunting movement, and crisp shadow puppetry.
Born out of an enthusiastic obsession with zombies, Monster/Girl began as a conversation about the myriad reasons why these creatures have become such a cultural fascination. This conversation led to unexpected places and excited questions, such as 'What makes us human? Who are we when we are no longer ourselves? Who are we without our memories, without our minds? And what happens when we become them?"
Music by Charlie Universe. Movement by Lily Emerson. Puppetry by Stephanie Acosta.
Monster/Girl was also be performed at the IndyFringe Festival 2009 Saturday, August 29 @ 6pm, followed by Schwinntonation (featuring Monster/Girl composer Charlie Universe) @7pm, more info @ http://schwinntonation.googlepages.com

Monster/girl originally ran January 16th – 31st, 2009 at TEMPLE in the Chicago Arts District.
The first in a three part series exploring Zombies to Alzheimer’s and everything in between Monster/girl was born out of a conversation about zombies and their usefulness as mob metaphor our searching took us to unexpected places and exciting questions, such as ‘Who are we when we are no longer ourselves? Who are we without our brains? Who are we without our memories? Spawning interest from so many Chicago artists that three extensions of the beast were born. Seasons later with many new threads to follow, with sore minds and bodies we begin here, with an introduction of the zombie as individual, of the journey from where we come from, and where we could end up.
