WAKING is...

A night created by the combined work of international artists, featuring 6 world premiere short works interwoven with original music by Nicholas Roy and visual art from Emily Benson, Craig Burgess and Timmah Ball. The plays in WAKING are from a combination of 3 U.S. & 3 Australian playwrights, all written in response to “existenstial” comment cards from US and Australian audience members.

Comment cards were distributed and filled out by audience members in Melbourne and Chicago at the parallel productions of concretecloudtheatre's have/hold and both productions of the Anatomy Collective's MANY THINGS ARE DESTROYING ME.

These two events ran consecutively in December 2005, both including shorts by Taavo Smith and featuring online images that allowed audiences to observe their international counterparts comments and productions. Both shows were an innovative success and demonstrated how ready audiences are to step outside the typical gallery and theatre experience.

Be a part of this continuing project in it's 3rd life and become a part of its next evolution.

Chicago’s Taavo Smith returns with another ten minutes or so of contemporary gibberish and intrigue to confound your senses and your vocabulary, showing you the insides of humanity at close range. Lizz Edele gives Arthur Miller a dose of David Mamet to unnerve and tickle your empathy muscle, while Justin Palmer will test your sense of judgement, truth and memory with a little romance. Aussie writers include Meg Courtney, shoving a taste of our current social-political quagmire in your face through recognisable Melbourne characters doing the trip of a lifetime we’ve all been on. Petra Kalive taps into another quagmire we’ve all been in altogether; the 3am blur of what-am-I-doing-with-my-life? And finally, a new work by Wal Cherry and New Dramatists winner Anthony Crowley that delves into one man’s psyche as he waits to board a simple aeroplane.
